The art is envisioned to instill a lighthearted and uplifting sense of spirit, while speaking to the economic transformation taking place in Lakewood and the surrounding West Colfax corridor. Made of four larger-than-life puzzle pieces, Connected directs traffic from the center of a major roundabout. The monumental, stainless steel sculpture speaks to the connection between the community of Lakewood and the West Colfax corridor, one of the most trafficked thoroughfares in the country. The public art piece is illuminated each evening with RGB LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that circulate through the color spectrum in a brilliant fashion. Connected was voted BEST NEW PUBLIC ART in Denver by The Westword newspaper and is enjoyed by the thousands of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians daily.
